we are opening sign ups for timers again!! lots of our timers are busy and we need new timers!! if you know how to time, please go to our forum and check out the application section. we split up the episodes so you would only have to time 15-30 minutes for as many episodes as you want. its not a huge obligation. @Mary: timers get a file of the translated text and then match up each line with that time in the video so that the subtitles appear at the correct time.

encoders make the subtitles part of the video (so that the viewers do not have to open up the video file and the subtitle file seperately.) encoding is also important when the subtitle text is in different colors/styles because in softsubs (seperate file from the video file) those style do not always show up correctly, but in hardsubs (encoded) they do.
im not really sure how encoding works bc i have never done it, but timing is pretty easy (just kind of time consuming, especially at first.)
if you want to practice, you can download music videos and find translated lyrics and practice with those ^^

I can time as well~ I’m actually on the current FO subbing team, but I may be able to help out both teams. It’d be hard to do for the next several weeks because the semester is drawing to a close and the work is just piling over me, but when the new semester starts, I should have plenty of time. So just count me in ^^
By the way, making the subtitles colored and formatted is called typesetting. It’s not terribly hard to do, I usually typeset as I time in my own videos. Encoding is just slapping the subtitles onto the video ^^

you don’t need to typeset in order to encode.. you can just encode the subs but it won’t look pretty.. it’ll just be plain white text lol..

heyyyy! i saw on alvins blog (coolsmurf) that you guys need help subbing? im a really big fan of family outing and was really sad when f.o fansubs moved =( so i came here to help spread family outing!! :D

i think FO Fansub has subbed this show just until ep 7. The rest..erm i mean from ep 8 until 23 just english sub from a random user..it must be good if all youtube subber could combine all in one fansub..
since i really dun know how fansub work n how to sub n also quite bad in english but really want to help u out..maybe signing as encoder or uploader..

Hey I can be an encoder/timer though I don’t have idea as to what to do.. But i can learn. I’m on my holidays now till early Jan 09 and I seriously have nothing to do. Well, I’m off to KK,Malaysia next week for few days but after that i’m totally free.

never stopped speaking or reading korean, but hate having to write it because my spacing of letters is so bad… still, i can listen and speak like the native i am and can still read like a primary (elementary) school kid so i’m up for it
